Proulx Newsletter 9/26-30/2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 4 out of 37.  This week was one filled with new things, and many small successes. One thing that we accomplished was to access our online Go Math resources.  We also worked in Google Classroom (finished 2 assignments).  Students are excited as we move forward in Social Studies.  Their Island Map ideas are great!

Please remember our first field trip is coming for Science (Tryon Creek), so be looking for emails in regard to field trip procedures.  Classroom volunteers have begun coming into the classroom.  All volunteers should be hearing from our Room Moms, Mrs. Minnie Cooper and Mrs. Julia Lyman.  Thank you parents for your faithful, support!

We are generating ideas for our Class Community Service Project.  If you have ideas, or would like to help us when we do our HandsOnGreaterPortland Greeting Cards for Meals on Wheels, please let me know.

Proulx Newsletter 9/19-23/2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 3 out of 37.  WHCS 5th graders are beginning to dig into most of their core classes.  As you read the classroom context below, you'll notice students have begun most of their first units in Social Studies, Science, Math, Spelling, Reading, and Writing.  You may not have noticed much homework coming home, however, students are definitely putting time into their studies.  Our goal is to lead students into focusing and working during their school day, in order to spend more time doing family activities and getting plenty of rest on school nights.

Let's make this third week of school a great one!  Please remember the Student Council Fundraiser to help NCO!  The boxes are filling up, but the need is great.  Way to go Student Council!

Proulx Newsletter 9/12-15/2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to WHCS 5th Grade!  This is week 2 out of 37.  It was great to meet all of you on Tuesday, and again on Friday evening!  Last week students learned many class procedures, practiced Opening Exercises, learned how to head their papers, how to walk in the hallways, and how to open their lockers!  We practiced life-saving skills (fire drills, earthquake drills, and lockdowns), as well as how to use the 5th and 6th grade mobile (computer), lab.  This week we will continue to add more procedures, but we hope to dig into our learning context!  I can tell students are ready to get to work.

Concerning classroom volunteers, I would like to meet with all parents who signed up to volunteer in the classroom.  As soon as all signatures are in, I will contact you with a day/time to meet.  The website gives a little information, however, it is so much better to see it for yourselves, and have it explained while you are in the classroom.  See you soon!

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to WHCS 5th Grade!  This is week 1 out of 37, our first 4 days of the 2016-17 school year, including Tuesday's "Open House and All-school BBQ."  That is when you will step into your classroom and enjoy meeting me, your teacher.  You will choose your locker and practice opening it (over and over!).  You will place your supplies in specific areas in the classroom, and finally, you'll need to choose a desk that you will use for several days.  I will assign seats later this month.

I am sure you will have many questions to ask, and for that reason, there will be a Composition Notebook and pen placed on the round table.  I would like for you to write any questions you have for me, or in general, and we will go over those questions on Wednesday. It's ok if you leave a comment as well.  Let's make the beginning week a great one!

Please bring your favorite book to class on Wednesday.  We will have our first Book Share class this Friday.  I'll explain the process to you during school on Wednesday so you will know what to do. It's important that you have your favorite book at school so we can enjoy your recommendations!
