Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 17 of 37.  Many happy returns after our Snow Days and Martin Luther King holiday. I am sure students are excited to be back at school working toward a great second trimester!  Please look for new times/dates for Chorale, Geography Bee, and other happenings.

Let's make this 3-day week of 2017 a great one!

Service Project:  We are looking at our schedule to plan our upcoming work with NWCO this trimester.  We will need much parent help (drivers/chaperones).  Be looking for dates/times, and the volunteer email to be sent in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead:

Jan 17 - Egyptian Trading Card Research due
Jan 20 - National Geographics 4-8th Grade Geography Bee (Friday)
Jan 23 - Egyptian Trading Card Project due
Jan 25 - Proulx Chapel: Moved to May 24.
Jan 31 - Afterschool Lion King (3:05-5:00 PM)

Following is the classroom-context of our week:

Finish up Lesson 6: Moses Serves God, then move directly into Lesson 7.

MV:         I Corinthians 14:12. Quiz Tuesday, 1/17.
Math:     Finish Go Math Chapter 2. Math practice and helps: Think Central, and Khan Academy. 
SS:         Ancient Egypt unit. Practice research procedures. Link to: Trading Card Project/contract. 
Sci:        Cont. Light and Sound unit.
Lit. Block:

    • Reading:  Begin our unit on Realistic Fiction.
    • Read aloud: Treasure of the Hidden Tomb by Tad Hardy.
    • Writing:   Six Traits of Writing: Word Choice.  Cont. Dress Ups and Sentence Openers. <link
    • Spelling:  How to use our spelling concepts in everyday writing.
    • Vocabulary: Topic Word List from Egypt unit. 
    • Grammar: Continued focus: adverbs and adjectives.
    • Penmanship: Continue  Handwriting Without Tears 
Reading Buddies: Friday
Specials: 4-day Schedule
Art:  Scarab Beetles and papyrus name plate in heiroglypics.

Correction Forms can be found on the Resources and Study Guides page on the classroom website, or click the link to print > "Correction  forms<link.  If you have not yet seen the Corrections forms, please remind your children that they are capable to choose any assignment, do corrections, and improve their grade points.
*There may be some modifications to the schedule during the week, depending on student needs/tempo. We will work on classroom expectations throughout the week. As always, I will email important updates to you as they arise.
