Proulx Newsletter 4/24-28/2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 20/37 of the 2016-2017 school year.

We will continue reviewing ideas about "Growth Mindset"   Interested?  View the short video at Growth Mindset for Parents <link.  Feel free to ask your child about some of the ideas they are reviewing.  Ask them, what is a "Yeti? "

Bible:  Lesson 21. David Sins  Test Wed. 4/26 Begin Lesson 22: Absalom Rebels...
MV:      Psalm 51:10 (<link) Quiz Wed. 4/26  New verse: Hebrews 3:12.
Math:   Chapter 5.  Dividing Decimals. Test 5 Friday. Math practice and helps: Think Central
             and Khan Academy. 
SS:        Byzantine Empire.  Packet, Study Guide and Test Thursday 4/27.  Packet link <click
Sci:       Energy work and Simple Machines.             
Literacy Block:
    • Reading: Work on story board. Final due on, or before, 5/01/2017. Presentations to begin 5/01.
    • Read Aloud: Continue Crispin: The Cross of Lead 
    • Writing: Finish Storyboards due date 5/1. Begin intro to Final Middle Ages Research Report. Begin research 5/1.
    • Spelling: Take Home Task 22
    • Grammar: Continue Punctuation Unit.
    • Specials: Regular Schedule

Proulx Newsletter 04/17-21/2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 29/37 of the 2016-2017 school year.  I hope you enjoyed a worshipful, fun-filled Easter weekend. It was good to revisit the Biblical events that occurred from "Good Friday, through 'Easter' Sunday." Students compared and contrasted secular versions of Easter, with Biblical accounts of the days leading up to the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord.  We also enjoyed sharing the various ways each family celebrates this time of year.

School days have been going by so quickly, and students are diligently working to turn in their assignments, finish up biographies/storyboards, work on Science research assignments, and move forward in Math.  We will revisit our ideas about "Growth Mindset" (you may remember teachers talking about this last year or the year before).

    • Spelling: Continue with in-class Take Home Tasks.  Lesson 21.

Proulx Newsletter 04/10-14/2017

Welcome to the 28/37 week of the 2016-2017 school year.  We have entered the 3rd, and last trimester of our 5th grade school year.  Let's take each week with grateful hearts, a strong work ethic, and excellence, beginning with this first week of the term.

                Traditions/Authentic Easter Accounts from Purposeful Design.

Math:      Chapter 4; Test 4/10Math practice and helps: Think Central, and Khan Academy. 
SS:          Finish Ancient Rome unit.  Test 4/11  Begin Byzantine Empire.
Sci:         Energy work and Simple Machines.             
Literacy Block:
    • Reading: Cont. biography/autobiography unit.  Storyboard project. Finish book by 4/17 Work on story board 4/17-4/24. Final due on or before 5/01/2017.
    • Read Aloud: Finish Hans and Margret Rey (a True Wartime Escape).
    • Writing:  Sentence Openers: Quicksand.  Quality paragraphs.
    • Spelling: Continue with in-class Take Home Tasks.  Lesson 20.
    • Grammar:  Punctuation unit.
    • Specials: Regular Schedule
Art: Move forward with the Roman Arch.

Proulx Newsletter 04/03-07/2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 28/37 week of the 2016-2017 school year.  I hope you enjoyed a fun-filled Spring Break!  This week 2nd term Report Cards go out, and we also begin our 3rd trimester.  Let's make this week a great one.

Congratulations to our Band members who will enjoy a couple of days of festivals this week!  Also, let's not forget our opportunity coming up to work at NCO and help to promote God's love and care in our community!

Looking ahead:

April 7  - Service Project:  Our visit to NCO is scheduled for April 7th, 12:30-2:55 pm. Band Festival
