Proulx Newsletter 2/27-3/03/2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 24 of 37. Spirit Week is here!  This week is the time students at WHCS get to dress up to match the theme of each day and let their school-spirit shine!  Additionally, students should check the Hoop-a-thon website every day to see if their sponsors are tabbing entries.  Let's make this year's Hoop-a-thon/Spirit Week a great one!


Following is the list of Spirit Week themes:

Mon:  Pajama Day
Tues:  Sports Day
Wed:  Lumberjack Day
Thu:   Disney Day
Fri:     Class Choice

Feb 27-Mar 3 -  SpiriWeek!

Feb 28 -  Lion King After School (3:05-5:00)
Mar 03 - Hoop-a-thon
Mar 10 - Special Chapel with Aaron Meyer.
Mar 14  - Field Trip: Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals (9:00-1:30)
Mar 17 - Patriotic Program and Museum (7 pm).
Mar 23 - 5/6 grade Puberty Talk 
April 7  - Service Project:  Our work at NWCO is scheduled for April 7th. We will need parent help
               (drivers/chaperones).  Be looking for dates/times, and the volunteer sign-up email to arrive in
               your inbox soon.

Following is the classroom-context of our week:


Bible:     Unit 9 continued.  No test for Unit 9.

MV:        1 John 1:8 Memory verse quiz Monday 3/6.
Math:     Finish Chapter 3 lessons 10-12, Chapter Review. Test 3/6. Begin chapter 4 Tues 3/7.
               Math practice and helps: Think Central, and Khan Academy. 
SS:         Ancient Greece unit continued.
Sci:        Solid Earth Unit.
Literacy Block:
    • Reading: Finish book.  Book report due 3/15.  Please check pink packet for details.
    • Writing: Begin working on book report packet in class.  Lessons will be given each day. Students must finish their books if they have not.  Rough draft due 3/10. Begin the writing portion; students should work at home and at school; parent editing needed. Typing/printing final drafts will be assigned as homework, however, students will continue to work on the reports at school during Writing class, as well.  Book report due date extension: March 15. 
    • Grammar:  Adverb review due Thursday.
Reading Buddies: Friday
Specials: Regular Schedule
Music: Mon. 5/6 boys only lunch practice.  Wed. 5/6 girls only lunch practice. LION KING AFTER 
             SCHOOL (3-5:00),Tues, Feb 28th.
Art: Complete Greek Vase artwork.

Proulx Newsletter 02/21-24/2017

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to a new week, with only four days to reach higher!  This is your opportunity to learn, grow, and show what you know.  Let's make week 22/37 a great one.

Looking ahead:

Feb 24 - All School Prayer Night
Feb 27-  Spirit Week begins (ends Friday March 3rd) See details below.
Feb 28 - Lion King After School (3:05-5:00)
Mar 03 - Hoop-a-thon
Mar 10 - Special Chapel with Aaron Meyer.
Mar 17 - Patriotic Program and Museum (7 pm)

Spirit Week details:  Monday:  Pajama Day.  Tuesday, Sports Day.  Wednesday, Lumberjack Day. Thursday, Disney Day, and Friday, Student Choice (shhh...we are voting on Friday).


Following is the classroom-context of our week:

Bible:     Unit 8  Test on Wednesday.

MV:         Joshua 1:7 Test on Wednesday.
Math:     Chapter 3. Mid Chapter Check Point, then work to finish up lessons 7-10. 
               Math practice and helps: Think Central, and Khan Academy. 
SS:         Continue Ancient Greece unit.
Sci:        Intro to Solid Earth Unit.
Literacy Block:
    • Reading:  Realistic/Historical Fiction unit continued
    • Read aloud: FINISH Treasure of the Hidden Tomb by Tad Hardy.
    • Writing: Continue short paragraphs using Word Choice.  Focus on spelling and punctuation.  Answer questions such as, "Does this sentence make sense?" Book reports Due date March 10. Students have been given the requirements (in class), for the 5th grade book report. These requirements were addressed last week, and will continue to review the "how-to's," in class .  Once we begin the writing portions, students should work at home on the editing (parent help), and typing/printing up the final drafts. Students will begin, and continue to work on the reports at school during Writing class, as well. 
    • Spelling: Finish unit 11. Test to follow. 
    • Grammar: Predicate Adjectives, adverbs continued.
    • Penmanship: Continue  Handwriting Without Tears.

Bible:     Finish lesson 8.

SS:         Ancient Israel.  Test Tues. 2/14
Sci:         Movement and Control
Literacy Block:
    • Reading:  Realistic Fiction unit.  Begin reading groups as scheduled.
    • Read aloud: Treasure of the Hidden Tomb by Tad Hardy.
    • Writing: Continue short paragraphs using Word Choice.  Focus on spelling and punctuation.  Answer questions such as, "Does this sentence make sense?" Book reports Due date March 10. Students have been given the requirements (in class), for the 5th grade book report. These requirements were addressed last week, and will continue to review the "how-to's," in class .  Once we begin the writing portions, students should work at home on the editing (parent help), and typing/printing up the final drafts. Proulx Newsletter Feb. 6-10, 2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to week 20 of 37.  It has been a weather-filled winter, with many unpredictable school days.  Our hope is to enjoy a full-week of school, and to do our best each day.  Let's make February 6-10 a great week!

Following is the classroom-context of our week:

Bible:     Finish lesson 7.  Test 2/6 (note date change).

MV:         Hebrews 10: 11-12  MV quiz 2/6 (note date change)
Math:     Continue Chapter 3.
               Math practice and helps: Think Central, and Khan Academy. 
SS:         Begin new Unit: Ancient Israel.

Literacy Block:
    • Reading:  Realistic Fiction unit.  Begin reading groups as scheduled.
    • Read aloud: Treasure of the Hidden Tomb by Tad Hardy.
    • Writing: Introduce the writing element to student book reports.  Due date March 10. Students will learn  the requirements (in class), for the 5th grade book report. These requirements will be addressed this week, in class .  Students should work at home on the editing (parent help), and typing/printing up the final drafts. However, students will work on the reports at school during Writing class, as well. 
    • Spelling: Finish unit 10.  Dictation Test to follow. 
    • Grammar: Predicate Adjectives, adverbs continued.
